Well……the flat tire demon struck us last night as we were
headed home from Mick and Dalese’s. Thank God it was on a well lit street with
not much traffic. Mary Ellen was driving …I might add… and up out of the street
there arose such a huge piece of concrete….no one knows why those things are in
the streets but they are. We hit it and instantly the tire went flat!!!! After
much work and one call to Mick...he did give good advice...I just hadn't kicked it in the right spot, we got the tire off and the spare put on and
carefully headed home. Now, for the rest of the story. I took it to be fixed
this morning and it went to tire heaven. No way to fix it . Now I am waiting to find out if we have anymore
tires in storage if not we will buy another one.
On another note This week we held interviews for new
students at KTS. The Good new is we will have some new church planting
students. The bad news we need more applicants. I was really encouraged by the
quality of students . We just need more. We will have one last interview
process in October. Pray that God will send us more students.

Hello from Kiev.
Its Sunday here and its been quite a weekend.
My assistant Viktor left us headed to Budapest to study International
Law (See Mary Ellens journal). It wont be the same without him but we
wish him Gods best and he will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
One thing for sure here in Ukraine. Nothing is Normal here . The only
thing that is Normal is that nothing is Normal. For instance. Every
summer they turn off our hot water for several weeks . Ever taken a
cold shower???? Interesting. Well we finally got the hot water back on
but now ....they turn it off every night and we never know at what time
it will be turned back on . Oh well such is life in Ukraine.

Life is good here in Ukraine.
The weather has moderated and the political situation has calmed down.
We have a new prime minister and things are getting back to normal.
Mary Ellen and I are turning our attention more everyday to preparing
for seminary. She will be teaching in September and I will interviewing
new students for the church planting program in a couple of weeks.
Viktor is getting ready to leave for Budapest August 19. We will be
having a going away celebration for him on August 18. His family will
be coming up from Cherkassy and spending the night with us on Friday
night and then we will all go to the airport and send him off. He is
going to be studying at the Central European University in Budapest
this year. He will be getting an International Law Degree. Good for
him. Please keep him in your prayers.
We will be having another young man start working with us in September. We will tell you more about him as time goes by.
Enjoying the Journey,
Joel

Hello From Kiev,
Interesting times here in Ukraine. It appears that the president will
dissolve parliment. This is a last ditch effort to break the stalemate
that has besat our goverment for several months now. We are moving into
unchartered waters here in this country.PLEASE PRAY FOR THIS NATION
DURING THESE IMPORTANT DAYS. THE FATE OF WHERE THIS COUNTRY IS GOING IS
BEING HELD IN THE BALANCE.
Untill next time,
Joel

Hello from Kiev Ukraine.
We are beginning something new on our website. ITS A BLOG!! You may be wondering why is a 60 year old man beginning to blog? Well, maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks....I hope so.
I have been interested in blogging for quite some time now. It is a great new way of communication. The purpose of our blog will simply be to give you some insight into the lives of a missonary couple in the former Soviet Union. We will stay out of politics and leave that for someone else.
Please be patient with us as we begin. We are also changing some of the format of our website after almost 3 years.
